Thomas Gibson Bowles…founder of Vanity Fair Magazine and grandfather of the infamous Mitford Sisters. Leslie Ward, “Spy”, caricatured Bowles twice for Vanity Fair…once while Bowles remained the owner/editor of the publication and one after he sold Vanity Fair and was a member of the Commons.
Bowles also founded The Lady…London’s weekly woman’s publication that hangs on, barely, today.
